  3. It is a democracy. We have elections every 4 years
  4. The history of NZ dates back to around AD 800 but there is a lot of discussion about this
  5. In 1840 the Treaty of Waitangi was signed. This was our the NZ's founding document. It was signed between Europeans and Maoris
  6. 99% of Nz's population are literate.
  7. The major sports played are rugby, netball, soccer and cricket
  8. The biggest thing we sell overseas are dairy products
  9. Most of our power is generated by hydo dams
  10. NZ plays a significant role in looking after Antarctica

Olympic Sports Event : Heptathlon

The Heptathlon is an event that involves an athlete competing in a range of track and field events.

The events are

  • 100 metres hurdles
  • high jump
  • shot put
  • 200 metres
  • long jump
  • javelin
  • 800 metres
4 events are done on the first day with the next 3 on the last day.
The competitor gets points for the standard of their performance.
Men compete in the decathlon (10 events) and women compete in the Heptathlon.
